Using the GSS, I created two charts illustrating marital status for females over time (from 1972 to 2012), broken down by year and by respondent's race. Using the US Census, I created eight charts illustrating marital status over time (from 1880 to 2012), broken down by year, by respondent's sex, and by respondent's race.
From the GSS:
